I was wondering if anybody has reloaded .223 using the CT Ballistic Slivertips.  If you liked or disliked and what powder was used.

I have loaded 55 gn Nosler Ballistic Tips with W748 and H335 with great results, not quite apples and oranges.

The difference between the two is the moly coating on the BSTs and the gray nose.  The .223 is not exactly a speed demon, and moly has limited benefits for that round.  IMO, you would be better served with the regular BTs or Hornady V-Maxs for their intended purpose.

The lube on the silvertips is not moly but something similar.

I do agree that the regular stuff - non-coated, is the way to go.  No real good reason to complicate things.

The coating is luxalube or something like that, you don't feel it.  I have shot the Winchester Ballistic Silvertip in my 243 WSSM and it was pretty good so I was wanting to try it in the AR.

I have shot the identical bullet in its Ballistic Tip form.  The 40-gr Ballistic Tip was sub 1/2 MOA in my .223 bolt gun and very explosive on varmints at 3600 fps.  H-335 was the powder used.  I know that Winchester uses some type of black coating on their version, which I am sure is not Moly, but I honestly think it is more for looks than anything.  They started this stuff with the Black Talon and it was a successful marketing ploy.

But the Ballistic Tip and its identical Winchester counterpart are excellent bullets with great explosiveness and accuracy.

I stand corrected!  I do remember reading something at one time that it is an oxide...almost like a the blueing on a gun, but I lost that in the files upstairs and spoke with Authori-ty about the molybdenum coating.

I've been shooting nosler 40gr ballistic tips and getting outstanding results. Far better than the 55gr FMJ's i've been loading anyway.
