Ok, I pulled some bullets and went to resize the cases (with the decapping pin removed) and promptly stuck the case.

Now the case is stuck in the sizing die with a live primer in it.  I need to use a punch to drive the primer out but I don't want it going off on me.

What's the best way to neutralize that primer so I can get it out?

Kill it with fire!     Can you get some penetrating oil inside the case?  I have punched many a live primer without incident but can not recomend such a dangerous practice.

Put some lube inside, wear earplugs and safety glasses.

AFAIK, there is no sure fire way. I've heard the lube works for a time, but the primer may still go off.

Oil should work as long as you don't let it dry out before you punch out the primer.

Still, as others have said, be careful.

Ear plugs, gloves, and eyeglasses.

Alright guys, I'm going in.

I filled the case with WD40.

I'll report back in a few.

Edit:  Ok, that was uneventful.  I just screwed the die with the stuck case in upside-down from underneath the press and use the press ram to push the decapping pin assembly up into the case, thus popping the primer out.  Now to find my stuck case remover....

Last night I punched a couple dozen old primers out of a bunch of Weatherby brass that one of my shooting friends gave me last Saturday.

The can of "mixed Weatherby" also has some fire formed .300 H&H brass.

I used a RCBS Universal depriming tool in my LEE nutcracker so I could work outdoors; I'm cooped up inside all day long, so I want to be outside when I'm not at work.

Just FYI, I've decapped live primers plenty of times.  Obviously one should prepare for the worst while doing this (eyes, ears) apply pressure to the handle in such a way that if it comes flying back, you don't get hurt too bad, and apply a sloooowww steady force.  In situations like yours, you can take off the top of the die, slide your decaping pin down that hole, and into contact w/ the primer, and then use a board to slowly apply force to force out the primer.  It will take more force than you are comfortable, but worked fine the one time I did it.  Just for God's sake, don't give anything a sharp rap.

This is probably the most dangerous advice you'll get for weeks, but hey, it's worked for me in those few oh-crap moments w/out a problem.

Dillon recommends if you get a primer tube from one of their presses jammed up to fill it with WD40 and discard it.  WD40 must penetrate and kill the primers pretty good.

Are you there?  Can you still hear us?  Hello?  AMPN?

This doesn't look good fellas.

This is NOT a recommendation, but I just deprimed 50 cases yesterday.  Slow and easy.  Had to pull some bad bullets (very poor grouping) and then needed to resize.  Primers detonate from an impact not pressure.

He edited his earlier post... he did it with no problems.

O.K. glad this thread was started as i just got done pulling my first mistakes, and was going to post a simmiliar thread.

What is the correct method of decapping/deprimming a case once you have removed the bullet and powder?

Spray some WD40 inside wait how long? then decap as if i were decapping/resizing with my die?

Most of my case's have the shoulder pushed backed (newb mistakes learning) will i ruin my die if i try to decap and resize?  Just asking i do have a regular decapping die only.
