| I am about to rebarrel a rifle in 280 Ack Imp. I have a lot of .280 Rem factory ammo laying around from when I purchased a .280 years ago. Is it safe to simply fire that through the Ackley chamber and use the brass? Would you then recommend simply neck sizing the brass afterwards? I have .280 rcbs dies still and would just like to use the seater from it, but may buy a better one as well. This is my first venture into fireforming and I believe most people use lighter loads to do this. Wondering if A) its safe and B) does it work the brass too much? TIA |

Ackley Improved cases index off the same datum as the parent, FOR THE MOST PART. Does yours? Only you know. If it does, it is fine to fire full-bore loads from the parent in the Ackley Improved chamber, effectively fire forming it. Pressures might be low, accuracy might be off but it won't hurt the brass or the rifle. |
