Hey i have noticed on some of my 270 and 30-06 brass that the sholder has "waves" around the shoulder. Is this now in the trash brass? What causes this?

Note:  This is my step #4........

4) Next, is lubing the cases.  I use a spray lube on the outside of the cases......not too much......and not too little. As you re-load more and more, you'll get better at judging the amount needed. You don't want dimples on the shoulders of your cases (too much lube) and you don't want a stuck case in your die (not enough lube). I simply lay a single layer of cases on a piece of cardboard and spray.  Shake the cardboard a little and spray the cases again.

Sounds like a case of lubing the shoulder. Pun intended.

Are you using a pad to lube?

If so keep lube off of shoulder.

The dents will be gone after next firing.

Spray lube is much easier to use.

Here is a link on lubing and sizing from the Tutorials on the top of the page. Link

IF, you're saying that from the box the rounds had the "defect."  Then my response would be that the factory also uses lube during the brass forming process.  Just bad Q.C. I suspect.

IF, the rounds were perfect out of the box (also, clean and dry)........but, later (after firing) showed the "waves" in the shoulders.  Then, I'd be looking to cleaning my chamber really good.

BTW.......you talking semi-auto or bolt gun?
