I need to buy a set of dies for my .308. This rifle is a Remington M700 PSS and I plan on shooting long range matches- when I find some close enough to drive to. I have read a lot of posts on another forum about someone having problems, and they always ask if it was with bushing dies. What is the difference between bushing dies and other dies? I found that there is a set of Redding competition dies that cost over $150.00. Why are they so much better than the other dies? RCBS has a set of competition dies for about $82.00. Is the Redding set that much better, or are they designed more for the 1000 yard competitors? What would be a very good set without breaking the bank, or should I just bite the bullet and buy the Redding? Jim |

Buy a three die set from Redding with a bushing neck sizer, a body sizing die, and a conventional seater. The titanium nitride bushings are $18 each, so follow directions carefully before you order one so you don't end up with bushing you can't use. This is a chicken and egg thing; you have to seat some bullets in the brass you'll use to select the correct bushing for sizing the case neck. Or listen to advice on the size required and hope it works. Without looking, I'll guess this die set is about $70 right now, maybe a little less. Buy a competition seater later if you really want one. A similar set of dies from Forster will serve as well. You can't cut corners on your competition equipment. |
