Anyone using 50gr sps in their AR's?  If so, how have they done for you?  I found a good buy on some locally but have never loaded this light.  I have both 1/7 and 1/9 twist barrels for what its worth.  Any imput is appreciated.

Lightest bullet I've loaded in an AR, is Hornaday's 53 gr HP match.

223, 1 in 9 twist, ten shots in 1 1/8 inch at 100 yds.

I was using a light crimp applied with a Lee FCD.

Bought these at the fun show, partial box of bullets for $2.

Last show, found two more full boxes for $6 eash.

I have also had good results with 53s but never used the 50s yet.  Anyone else have thoughts on this?  Maybe I should just buy them and play around to see what results I get.

I don't have any 1/7 barrels but I have used 50 grainers (HP and SP) in 1/9 Bushmaster barrels with no problem.

Your 1/7 barrel should have no issue w/ the 50grn rounds as all my 1/7s shoot the Walmart Value box 45grn HPs extremely well....

After trying to find more info it seems that some 50grs spin apart at 223 velocitys.  Has anyone had that happen?  Thanks

The Sierra "Blitz" and Hornady "SX" bullets have thinner jackets to make them more explosive at .222 & .223 velocities from traditional varmint barrels with 14" twists, so I'd avoid them in in 9" and faster twists. I ran some normal 55 gr. SP bullets in my 1-7 CMMG barrel with no problems.
Give them a try.
