| Anyone using 50gr sps in their AR's? If so, how have they done for you? I found a good buy on some locally but have never loaded this light. I have both 1/7 and 1/9 twist barrels for what its worth. Any imput is appreciated. |

Lightest bullet I've loaded in an AR, is Hornaday's 53 gr HP match. 223, 1 in 9 twist, ten shots in 1 1/8 inch at 100 yds. I was using a light crimp applied with a Lee FCD. Bought these at the fun show, partial box of bullets for $2. Last show, found two more full boxes for $6 eash. |
The Sierra "Blitz" and Hornady "SX" bullets have thinner jackets to make them more explosive at .222 & .223 velocities from traditional varmint barrels with 14" twists, so I'd avoid them in in 9" and faster twists. I ran some normal 55 gr. SP bullets in my 1-7 CMMG barrel with no problems. Give them a try. |
