hey guys, i got a brand new hornady lock and load press that im having problems with. the sizing die gets really sticky and i have a hard time getting the cases sized without having to break the press off of my bench. it takes damn near all my strength to get some of them to go through.

im using one shot case lube and the cases have already been sized with my single stage rcbs press. i called cabelas and they sent me a new die set but that still didnt cure the problem.

if i put in my rcbs die into the place of the hornady it works smooth with no problems..

any ideas?

Don't know why you are sizing twice.

The one shot lube is probally the problem.

Those that use it successfully say to use a lot, and let it dry completely.

I use the spray lube from Dillon.

My advice is to leave the sizing die out (assuming you have already sized and done your brass prep) out your lock and load.

Insert case normally, and load on.

My suggestion is avoid spray case lube like the plague.  Use one of the case lubes that you roll on with the pad.  I've never had a problem with those.

YMMV

+1 on the lube pad also with the LnL make sure you put a drop of oil on the ram regularly.

thanks for the replys guys.

i guess there is no real reason i should be using the hornady die in the press. i already sized using the rcbs die when i prepped the brass earlier.  the guy from hornady told me to put that die there so i did.

are most guys not prepping the brass(decap, debur, trim) b4 they use this setup? just grabbing the brass right from the tumbler and loading?

when i talked to hornady they told me to keep my single stage and use it to prep the brass.

i do spray the case lube on the shells and roll them on the pad. let it set up and go from there.

i did try the dillon lube but it seemed to be very messy/slimy.  thats why i liked the one shot; its not messy at all.

it does seem to work better if i use a lot of spray lube. i guess ill try and buy some other stuff tonight.

Go to the top of the page under Forum Resources.

Look for the how to load 223 with a Dillon 550.

Sure it's a different press, but the case prep will be the same.

Lots of good info up there, check it out.

You really need to get a better grasp of what you are doing before going full steam ahead.  PLEASE read the Forum Resource threads at the top of this forum.

thanks guys.

ive been through the sticky's at the top of the page. i know how to reload just trying to learn a new press/dies.

i called hornady and they told me to not roll the brass on a lube pad. just put them upside down in a loading block and spray.

works fine now. i must have been loosing the spray to the pad.

thanks again for the help.
