Hello all new to this forum and been browsing a bit, gotta HYPOTHETICAL question just wondering if anyone can give any additional insight as I've gotten every opinion on this as is...
My friend Joe Schmuck has a GSG-5PK, he also has a folding stock, a vertical grip and a faux suppressor he wants to put on it. He's not sure if adding these parts makes it an SBR, or if adding the parts meets the length requirements for it to simply be considered a rifle. Does anyone know anything on this idea my friend has? I've done research for him and he just doesn't want to buy the gun if he can't do what he wants with it, any ideas/suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated, just trying to make sure we're both informed of the proper laws. |
| I was thinking that myself. as alot of ar guys put on long muzzle devices/permanantly welded to get to a legal length so that they can have a shorty upper. Seems pointless to me why not just get the SBR if you are willing to risk letting the federal and local government decide on your future best of luck to you. I am a little to paranoid to do it. |

So again just hypothetically speaking, if the faux suppressor was physically attached to the firearm so it could not be removed, would that make it into a rifle based on length? Yes, you can permenantly extend the barrel to the length of a rifle (16") and then add a stock or VFG and will not be breaking any laws. Be aware though, that ATF is very specific in the method used to permenantly attach an extension. Once you turn your pistol into a rifle, you cannot legally convert it back to a pistol again. Question for your 'friend', why not just buy the GSG carbine? He'd have the advantage of a true 16 inch barrel for increased velocity and accuracy. Not to mention that a 12" long fake suppressor hanging off the end of a PK would look pretty silly, don't ya think?

| Honestly looking at the pictures of the faux suppressor he wants to use and I'll admit it would just be "tactiCool" as some people say, but this one looks cool. Unfortunately my friend prefers the look of the original GSG-5's and wants one of those, and a PK is all he's been able to find for sale... |
