I have a brand new GSG-5 that I'm having a lot of fun with..........
http://images17.fotki.com/v62/photos/2/36012/9296818/DSC_1914-vi.jpg but there are issues. When I got the brand new gun, I fired 5 rounds. On the 6th round the gun fired on an open bolt and blew out the side of the 22RF case. http://images12.fotki.com/v68/photos/2/36012/9145577/DSC_1507-vi.jpg Unknown to me, because the pressure was insufficient, it lodged a bullet in the barrel near the muzzle. I checked the gun over but didn't think to look down the bore and fired another round. This ringed the barrel near the muzzle and the rifle was sent back to ATI. These folks are fantastic and had the rifle back to me in days. New barrel......... Has anyone else experienced such a situation or is this a very rare occurrence? I took the gun to the range yesterday and after about 30 rounds, the gun fired on a semi open bolt again. This time there was a spectacular flash out of the loading port and I couldn't find the damaged case. I looked down the bore and there was no bullet. But the bullet did not reach the paper target at 50 yds. I also found that the bolt hold open lever was sticking on the last round and not holding open the bolt. Other than these two situations, gun shot about a hundred rounds without issue.....Extremely accurate. Many 5 shot, sub 1" groups at 50 yds with a 18X scope.............:bthumb: So last night I decided to tear into this rifle and find out why it can fire on a partially open bolt and why the hold open lever was sticking. First of all, this is a very well made firearm for the $$. Excellent castings and great machine work. Good quality springs, bushings, etc. I found tear down instructions on the internet and it was very easy to do a complete dis assembly. The 'hold open" lever was hanging up on the brass rivet that hold the magazine stop. I filed it down flush but there was still drag. Using a piece of glass with a piece of 300 grit sandpaper on top, I sanded the hold open lever 100% flat, and them using my dremel tool I cleaned up the little recess that the lever sits in. With all surfaces totally smooth, the bolt now stays back on the last shot with three different magazine. This probably would have worn itself in over time, but I like taking things apart on a cold Friday night! I couldn't understand how the "fire only in battery" system works. I need to dig deeper into this area to correct or modify. More later. One question to those that have a GSG-5. The barrel slides into a recoil spring carrier, is there supposed to be a set screw in this hole? http://images107.fotki.com/v67/photos/2/36012/9296818/DSC_1921-vi.jpg THANKS! |
