I am selling/trading a shotgun in the EE. I have been offered a GSG-5, but I really want a 10/22. How does the GSG-5 compare to the 10/22 in accuracy and dependability? I do not care about looks or cool factor. How much is a LNIB GSG-5 with 50 rounds on it worth?

I don't know about worth/market value, but I paid $381.50 OTD, tax and all, for a LNIB GSG-5 a few months back with the box, all the papers and accessories, and 2 mags –– if the thing had been fired at all, I couldn't tell it. I don't think that was a great price, but I thought it was probably fair.

FWIW, the GSGs are fun (we have three of them) and the one I've shot the most has been reliable, but the 10/22 (we have 9 of them in various configurations) is IMHO a much better value for the money, is extremely reliable/durable (my oldest one I've had/used for 30+ years without issue), and has aftermarket support/options beyond compare. If I (me, personally) were forced to choose one or the other exclusively it would be the 10/22 hands-down, and you can almost buy two 10/22s for about what you pay for one GSG. Nothing against the GSG, mind you, I do like them. My preference is, of course, BOTH!

As always, JMHO.

I would take the 10/22 over the GSG5 just for the ease of cleaning of the 10/22 compared to the gsg.

I agree with the above.. If you're only getting one, then the 10/22 is the best choice.  The GSG-5 is a great fun gun, and it is accurate.  Long term durability of the GSG-5 is still an unknown, but there will be parts for the 10/22 FOREVERRRRR.

That being said.... .I only bring my GSG-5 out to the range now.   It's so much more fun and cool to shoot than my 10/22's.   But if you can... get both.

I own both and can tell you that while the GSG is a fun .22 and looks cool, the Ruger 10-22 hasn't changed in such a long time for a very good reason. The 10-22 is the most reliable .22 on the market hands down no competition. It is like the 1911 as far as following, same classic design and has a HUGE supply of aftermarket accessories. In my opinion, there isn't a better rifle for reliability, accuracy and best overall value than the 10-22.

For reliability and longevity I'd say the 10/22 wins hands down.
For fun factor and cool factor, I love my GSG-5. The past few weeks it's all I have taken to the range.
(I had to rate the GSG-5 longevity based on the factory screw issues and lack of equivalent service life as it is only a couple years old.)

The GSG-5 was offered to me in trade. Honestly, I think they look ok, but I don't care for the mags (price, open sides, etc.). If I were going shopping with cash, I would certainly be going home with a 10/22. I owned one years ago and it was a pleasure to shoot. Just stick another mag of any ammo in it and pull the trigger. I already have a scope, rings and mount that I have been saving for a while in the event that I came across a 10/22 for a good deal. Funny how parts turn into weapons. If I had a bull barrel laying around.... a 10/22 would be an urgent emergency, lol.

As far as what I want to do with a 22lr goes.... I have a couple Walther P22s and they are accurate and dependable enough for a pistol. I want something in 22lr with a little more range and optic capability. I think a 22lr could be a real asset in hard times if need be. I have a lot of 22lr ammo as well.... and stumbling up on some 22lr in hard times is highly likely. It seems that everyone has a box or two laying around. Never know, as many 10/22s as there are in circulation, stumbling up an a mag or spare parts might even happen. With the GSG-5, I just don't see it happening.

10/22 it is.....

I sold my modded 10/22 for funds to pay off the GSG5-P that I had on hold. I love the GSG and its still my favorite firearm. But I missed my 10/22 so I recently bought it back. The GSG is the most eye catching gun at the range almost every time I go. Everyone stops by and asks about it etc.It also has a HUGE aftermarket as well since real HK parts and airsoft MP5 parts fit it. Both are accurate out of the box, but the Ruger can be made VERY accurate with a fw hundred bucks and some DIY mods. In the end, I vote for a GSG, THEN after that a 10/22...
