Ok so everyone said that the GSG likes the walmart federal bulk packs..... My GSG does not like it, This is the first ammo I have put through it that it does not like. I got some good strings but would STOVEPIPE quite often, switched back to the MINI Mags and not a problem. So I guess I will stock up on the Aguila since it runs like a top in everything I have. But I must say that the federal works good on my SW 22a that is very very picky on ammo.

So I am interested if anyone else has had this issue? First time I have had a hiccup but always bring known good ammo for checking function.

There's been others who also say their GSG doesn't like Federal for whatever reason. Just as everyone has their own preferences, guns have ammo preferences as well.

Dare I ask if you've done the allen screw conversion from the OEM screws? Mine got a LOT more reliable & accurate after I did this. Slam fires went away too.

Showing how guns are with ammo, my Buckmark simply HATES Federal .22 Gold match ammo but loves cheap Remington. Go figure.

Sure did, I only ran the gun about 200 rounds before doing it. It has been as reliable as you can get. I can say that I tore it down today to drop the right side of the receiver off for my SBR engraving, checked the hex screws to see if they were still tight. The hex screws and the locktite work wonders, I highly recommend that for anyone with a GSG.

The only bad thing is I stocked up on a bunch of federal from walmart last week, but I guess I will have plenty for the other 22's.

Last week I bought 4 of the Walmart 550 Value Pack Federals for $14.47 a box. I went back this week and it is $16.47 a box. That just aint right.

Hello stan,

Don't feel bad –– my new GSG-5 appears not to like the Federal bulk pack too.  Seems I get one "click" and/or stovepipe in every mag.

Mine runs 100% on Remington Golden Bullets or the new Winchester 555 bulk pack.  CCI Mini-mags are by far the best, but at $6 per hundred I'll save them for the local steel plate shoots.

Sure are fun little carbines ! !

all i ever hear are the praises for federal bulk pack.  remington golden worked fine in mine.  i finally located some federal from walmart though, and purchased the 6 brick limit.  i had many upon many failure to loads.  i am gonna try out the promag magazines soon to see if maybe it is the mags.  but it may very well be that i suffer the same ailment as you...

My GSG hated federal bulk pack as well. I had a couple dozen malfunctions in 200 rounds. I switched to CCI Blazer and the problems disappeared immediately.

If you want a slightly cheaper alternative to the mini-mags, try CCI Blazer or American Eagle. These have both proven to be dead-nuts reliable in my GSG, which seems to have similar tendencies to yours.

It is an allen head screw conversion kit to replace the majority of the factory screws your rifle comes with.

I have found that the
Aguila Interceptor 40 gr
Aguila Supermax  30 gr
Aguila HV             40 gr

all seem to run great and are a cheaper alternative.

essentially the screws that come with the GSG from the factory are quite prone to loosening up during use. The Hex head screws seem to be of a better quality and do not loosen up especially when lock tighted into the gun. I've replaced all of mine and have not had any issues. I found that when my gun started having FTE's and FTF's, the bolt block screw loosened up significantly. Once tightened, the issue went away.

They can come loose and shear off while the gun is firing, causing a fair amount of damage.

RRages has the kits available...

For the record, I didn't lok-tite my allen head screws when I replaced the OEM screws. I just snugged them up & it's been good to go. It's not like .22LR has a lot of stress placed upon the bolt asy.

Went to indoor range to try and sight in the GSG-5.

Winchester Wildcat .22LR HV 40gr in 500rd white box bulk pack.
300 rds fired.
Experienced one stovepipe failure to eject with first shot.
Experienced ten failure to feed last round from magazine(out of 30 mags shot).
Of course these are most likely rifle related and not ammo related issues.

The below results are with the rear sight cranked over to the left as far as it will go.

Results from 25'

Not bad at all, you may find that the issues may clear up as the rifle gets broken in.

I've run about 500 rds of the Wally World Federal bulk through mine without a single hitch. Pretty clean ammo too with very little fouling/cleanup reqd.

I did ~225 rds of CCI Mini-Mags today and only had 5 malfunctions, even with my mags and the stretched out springs and converted 10rd factory mag, I think that's perfectly acceptable error rate. The first round of three mags went off without a hitch though.

Fired about 450 rounds of American Eagle yesterday and only had a few minor issues. I had 3 or 4 of what I think is called slamfires, where you pull the trigger once and the rifle actually fires twice. 1 Round that was a tad oversized and would not chamber, and 3 rounds that appeared to fail to feed because the bullet itself was not mounted squarely on the casing. After finding a couple of those after clearing the chamber of the bad rounds I started looking more carefully at the ammo as I loaded it. Found 2 more that were slightly off kilter. Wonder if maybe the box they were in got dropped or something.

Slam fires are strictly rifle related, you need to send your rifle in and have the breech block checked out by ray. Mine had the same issue and it was the barrel and breach block causing the problem.

The issues your rifle is having sound like an ejector to me. Is yours riveted in or not?
