Here's a quick front sight tweak I did on my build. I didn't like the black sight––easy to lose against a down range background. So, I used some reflective tape I had laying around. This way, if I didn't like the mod, or the color of the reflective tape, I could change it without screwing up the front sight post.

Tools You Need:

1. Ruler. Metal is best because you use it as a guide to cut against with the X-Acto knife. Gives a nice clean and squared edge.
2. X-Acto knife. I use a standard No.11 blade for most projects and that's what you see pictured.
3. Reflective tape of your color choice. I've seen this stuff in white, red, blue, yellow, etc. I used yellow in my project.

STEP 1:
First clean the sight post with a Q-Tip and a little rubbing alcohol to get any grease/residue off.

STEP 2:
After cutting the tape to 3mm wide and the length to your needs (I cut mine to 7mm long), use tweezers (or the tip of the X-Acto blade) to position the tape on the sight post. Once you have it lined and square to the post GENTLY rub it down to make sure the adhesive sticks.

STEP 3:
You're done!   Wow, that was quick. Took me about 5 minutes max. Like the pic says, instant Hi-Vis sight that can easily be changed out if you want. Using this tape, any little amount of light hitting it reflects brightly. Sure, not a tritium or light rod sight, but you just saved some big bucks (for more goodies and ammo) and made a decent one for practically nothing.

ENJOY!

Nice easy fix to an existing front sight that is no bueno.

However, ATI already offers front sight kits that come with 3 different sights and they are all reflective, they are only around $8 too. Just thought I would throw it out there.

Nice mod thanks for the write-up. I think I might have to try that.

isnt that sight kit from ATI for gen2 only. the gen2 seem to have removable front sight posts, where as gen1 do not.

Where can you get the reflective sites? Please give the URL.

too much time. I simply grab some neon nail polish or acrylic paint and it's done....

or use white-out and let it dry completely and then use a neon paint marker and you're good..

Thanks for the idea.  I went to the local graphics shop.  The owner who is a friend of mine, gave me a scrap piece of weatherproof reflective vinyl.

Thanks for the tip on the adhesive tape. If you take the front sight post out you can really press down on the tape.

This begs more questions than it answers...

I decided to do the entire front sight, including the ring.  In low light you can see the front sight with the weatherproof reflective vinyl.

I was about to scoff until I saw the 2nd photo. Though, don't forget it's just a 22 - not a combat weapon. Not that will keep me from spending big bucks on unnecessary accoutraments.

Don't know about critters in other areas but rabbits and gophers around here have been known to attack in low light. When I run out of ammo I use the laser on my GSG to spot targets for the other defenders. If they get too close I blind them with my weapon-mounted light.
