What is the general opinions of TOPS knives?
I bought several about 15 years ago when they were starting out. I never used them much they were put back as spares. What's the opinion of the product? |

I have read this question over the years here and on other sites.
It seems that most people agree that TOPs makes a quality product at a decent price but some of the models are a bit crazy and they have weird names. I have been very happy with the few TOPS knives that I own. |

I almost bought their wild hog hunter, I think it's called. It's a great copy appearance-wise to the russian Kizlyar Phoenix 1 Combat. I ended up ordering the Bark River Bravo Pig Sticker (horrible name, btw) because it looked a little beefier and was an inch longer blade-wise. If I can't find a new Kizlyar I'll probably order the TOPS. |
| Years ago I bought Browning FDX 684 and 686 knives. Both were made by TOPS and are versions of the Cochise and Tom Brown Tracker models. I put them in the safe and forgot about them. I've recently been getting back into knives, mostly bushcraft style knives and whaddayaknow... both of my Browning/TOPS knives are perfect for that role! So yeah... I'm digging them right now. In fact, I just ordered a TOPS Cochise with the white micarda handles (versus the green ones on my Brownings). So I'll have three TOPS knives shortly (and I intend to pull them out of the safe and get 'em dirty, as they were intended). |

I use a Lite Traveler as my do-all, get me home, truck knife. http://ads.moosecreekgear.com/shop/images/P/TOPP001.jpg Also have the Power Eagle. Inherited it from my late brother. Still new and unused. https://sp.yimg.com/xj/th?id=OIP.M6bec8286e096fb86db5dca690667f420o0&pid=15.1&P=0&w=300&h=300 I dig that Light Traveler. Looks like a good candidate for an EDC fixed blade. And wow... that Power Eagle looks like quite the zombie apocalypse blade. My sincere condolences on how you came inherit it. |

I had a TOPS BOB for all of 5 minutes before my daughter claimed it for her own. She showed it to a friend who asked for one for Christmas!
The BOB falls close to the sharpened pry bar category, but I don't have to worry about my girl breaking the blade if she uses it for a piton and rappels from it. |

Thanks. He was only 59 when he passed 2yrs ago. The Power Eagle would surely do some work on zombies. This angle shows the girth of it. Its razor sharp as well. http://images.knifecenter.com/thumb/1500x1500/knifecenter/tops/images/TOPE12c.jpg That is an awesome knife. Sorry to hear about your brother. |

I'm waiting for them to release the BOB folder this year. |

This is now a pic thread Here's the US Combat Knife next to a Kabar. http://i.imgur.com/E7GLK1m.jpg?1 The whole family: US Combat Knife, Black Rhino, and the Tops/Buck Nighthawk http://i.imgur.com/mxlwUT6.jpg?1 Everyone of of these is basically a sharpened prybar. Check out the thickness of the Black Rhino, compared to an Essee 3 and the KaBar. http://i.imgur.com/KxNLj9W.jpg?1 Very nice! Thanks for sharing the pics. |
