I’m in the market for an ESEE 4 from Knife Connection, and I noticed recently that they have more options for sheaths now. I had been planning to get the black kydex clip plate version, but was wondering if anyone has experience with the new molded plastic sheath? They seem to be the same clip plate configuration and size, but just different materials. Anybody have both and prefer one over the other? With kydex I pretty much know what I’m getting, but the plastic one may have some benefits in the strength/durability area. Thanks for your input.

The molded sheath is the same style/type as used on the ESEE 3s.
Feels a little flimsy, more flexible, though it stands up to use just fine. Never had an issue with my ESEE 3 sheaths. The kydex ESEE 4 sheath feels stronger, more durable, but isn't in any practical, measurable way. They both serve the purpose. Just my $0.02 |

I've been using the regular plastic sheath that came with my rat-3 (same sheath, exactly the same) for 2+ years now. Daily. Every day type of daily. It works. Kydex would be just as useful, but the extra cost buys nothing more.
If I were going to buy another sheath, it would be the leather one they make because it hangs down and that can be more comfortable if you don't mind your knife showing. |
