thanks, fellas. so, would they be worth doing a small batch? i have a metric shit-ton of these small files that my son gave me. where he works, they just toss buckets of them each month once they have seen just a bit of use. i guess they get a new batch each month. i won't complain. i love working with files on occasion.

i always like feedback on new designs. something i might think is great and wonderful might go over like a fart in a car. i do some very different designs, so i never know just how folks will react. i think i will do a small run of these with some various blade grinds to give some variety. i like working with files when i know they are good steel. i try to stick with nicholson files, they have never let me down.

thanks, gentlemen. as far as HT, i go ahead and anneal the file from the start and then after the profile and rough blade grind, i HT as if it were 1095 or similar. it works well. i have had one file years ago that didn't harden using my oil quench. i used a brine quench and it hardened right that time. it was a brand i was not familiar with. all the nicholson files i have used must be chemically similar to 1095, they take a great edge after i HT and temper them. i try to stick with nicholson for all my file knives now. i have heard of some makers just drawing the steel back a bit softer than factory and leaving it at that. i have always been uncomfortable with that method.

thanks fellas, i just might make a few with a little notch or cutaway along the spine. that is a good idea. i have 10 files already annealed and ready to profile. i am not sure i am supposed to post prices and sales info on the main forum, so just shoot me a PM or email and i will fill you in on the details. i am going to keep the price affordable, though.
