I am doing a restoration of a samurai sword made in 1861 by Koyama Munetsugu during one of Japans bloodiest era (Shinshinto).  It is a 30 inch blade , which makes it rare.  It is still sharp as a razor.  I have two options for the fittings.  A set that has the Three Kingdoms theme, or a much more flowered theme set made by Souheishi Nyudo SOUTEN-sei.  Probably will cost me $6k when I am done, but it will be awesome.   Here are a sample of similar examples.

sanmei owns the sword below.  But it is similar.

I haven't been able to paste my pics on the site.  They just wont update from my phone.   Looks like I am going with the guy in Hawaii and socal to do the restoration.   I get my stuff this week.  Step one is making koshirae set and shirasaya.  Then I will get it polished.  If I could figure how to post pictures. ..

Beautiful piece of history. Sounds like you've done it a time or two before. Where do you acquire from?

I got a couple in years past from Manion's, but they are nothing in comparison to yours.

So I have decided to change the direction.   The blade I have is near the end of its value.  I will get it finish at lowest bid to use it for iaido.

This is what my new blade will be similar to, if I can still buy it or get a similar one made.

What was the problem with the blade, and where are you planning to get your next blade?

Pardon my ignorance, but does restoring something like this increase or decrease the value of the sword?

I would think that removing and patina/provenance like with firearms, would ultimately make the sword less desirable.
