Hello all,
I have an ESEE-3 that I use around the house (opening boxes, general cutting, and such). I would like a bigger knife to take with me when I do my basic camping. I don't really care for the ESEE-5, but am considering the ESEE-6 or Junglas. I hope to not have to rely on a knife to save my knife, however I do like to practice survival skills and basically mess around. I am looking for something bigger to kind of cover the rest of the bases that the ESEE-3 is too small for. Thanks for any ideas. |
| Depending on your terrain and what type of chores you intend on I would go with a junglas or machette. Maybe even a hatchet or tomahawk. The 3 is a great all around blade and I have a candiru, izzula, hest, laser strike, 3 ,6 and junglas. I like to carry the smaller blades and a chopping tool like the cold steel pipe hawk. I used to love having a big knife, but want to cut weight down now. You can't go wrong with any Esee blade though. |

I guess I am a fan of ESEE knives. I do like and use the 5 as much or more than the 6. Here are most of mine. The ESEE 6, 5, Laser Strike, 4, 3, and Izula. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7095/7228845432_d4388bd88d_z.jpg I even have a pink Izula for my significant other to carry. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7171/6833424963_7c36b68f63_z.jpg I only have one or two more ESEEs beyond this. Which one do you like the best? I know, tough question. If that question is too much, then which two do you like the best or which two would be your choice to have for SHTF? |

The 3 is manageable, compact, and enough knife for most task. The 5 is massive. But, it can do things nothing else can. It could save your tail if SHTF. Those are the two I would say can cover all bases. The 6 is more fun and probably cooler looking. Still, it can’t match the strength of the 5 in a dire situation. If you want something cool around deer camp, go with the 6. |

The 4 is also appealing, but I've heard so many people go with the 3 instead (and also have the 5). |

Perhaps I should just go down the local surplus store that sells knives in my area to actually handle both. I would have though most would recommend going with the 6 vs the 5 (but for no reason on my part in particular). The 5 seems nice, but heavy for its size. But perhaps that's its main advantage. Again, I have no experience with any except the 3 (which I own). |
| Thanks KYVENOM. I have a Buck Nighthawk with a 6.5" blade that I got for super-cheap a few years ago when a Sportsman's shut-down during their bankruptcy/restructuring, so that will work for a long blade for now. So, I went to a cool store in the area (Rapid Fire Bunker - thumbs-up) and got the 3. I wanted both the 5 and the 3, but got the 3 first (see 2nd sentence). I also looked at the 4 and it was very nice. If I had to get just one, then the 4, the 5 or the Striker or whatever it is would be choices. The 3 just seemed like it will be so damned handy. I'll get the 5 next, and I think you were right about getting both of them. I can also see why most of you say that you never just buy one. |
