I'm looking for an EDC knife. I have a Zero Tolerance 0350 that I carry at work but I find it too large for EDC. Here are my wants requirements:

Assisted opening or auto

Flipper (not just thumb studs) if non-auto

Smaller than a ZT 0350

I'd prefer not to spend a small fortune either.

Thanks!

Should have clarified: no thumb holes as well, unless it's assisted.

Kershaw Cryo for a small blade
Cryo II for a bigger blade (when its available)

For an auto take a look at the Protech TR-2.  It is fairly small and lightweight.  Cost is around $140.  Blade HQ has a good selection in stock.

Look at the Benchmade Sequel. Not an auto but with a flick of the wrist it opens damn fast. I loved mine but it was too small for my hands. Gave it to my daughter.

Thanks for the suggestions. Kershaw Cryo is looking real good. Also considering the Kershaw Leek.

I lost a cryo last week, and don't feel bad about it, just ordered another. I think it's a great value and solid design.

I'm the opposite.   I carry a Leek when I have to have a small, light knife.   Outside of work, I prefer the ZT0350.    IF I am around a lot of gun and knife guys, then I carry the ZT0301.

As for the Leek, there are two styles.   I have both.   There is the liner lock model and the frame lock model.

Here is a quick phone camera shot of some of my Kershaws.

Top is a ZT 0301
2 Cyclones (have 4)
2 ZT 0350s
2 Black Outs
2 frame lock Leeks
2 liner lock Leeks  (one pink and one with black G10 scales)
and a Skyline

All but the Skyline are assisted open knives.   All but the Black Out can operate as a flipper style knife.

I can't find the flipper on those.    Those come in a flipper style as mentioned?

Since it is not an auto, it comes in a flipper style?

Is that one assisted or come in a flipper style?

I found the link for that one.   But, I just can't see that meeting the requirements.

The Kershaw Leek is a helluva good deal for what you get. There are enough versions out there to fit pretty most anyones taste.

Thanks for the suggestions. Kershaw Cryo is looking real good. Also considering the Kershaw Leek.

I've carried a Kershaw Scallion for years in my coat pocket during the winter months and it's a great knife. The Leek is also very good from what I hear, and everyone is going nuts for the Cryo but I haven't touched one yet.

This was my first assisted open blade (got it as a Christmas present in 2004) and it is still sharp as hell with no real maintenance other than the rare occasion that I'll go around stropping all my blades. It's small and light and not flashy at all. I really, really like it. The finish is super durable on the blade and scales but you can definitely see the wear on the pocket clip. I'd definitely feel comfortable buying another Kershaw for what you plan to use it for.

+1 on the Cryo. Have one and I am a fan.
I also really like the kershaw burst, no thumbstuds but assisted and and a really nice flipper.

I think amazon has a promo right now where you can buy $50 or more in kershaw knives and they'll knock 10 bucks off. It's automatically applied promotion, so no code required. I took advantage of it twice last time they ran it.

I'm in the market for a knife with the same exact requirements as the OP.  I went a played with some Kershaw knives today and I have to say, the Leek was very impressive.  Super slim/lightweight, unbelievably sharp blade, fantastic one hand operation.  The flipper works really well on it.  I'm going to be buying one from Amazon here soon (as a previous person mentioned, they have a $10 off $50 Kershaw deal going)...I'm just debating on which blade to get.  I've also been eyeballing the Cryo but haven't been able to play with one in person.  I might just get both

Yeah you really can't beat the cryo right now for the price

Kershaw Leek. Light, inexpensive, assisted opener...think that nails your requirements to a tee.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Kershaw Leek 1660 is what I went with. Probably would have gotten the Cryo but it seemed like everyone was out.

I'm looking for a new everyday knife and have always been a fan of kershaw. Unfortunately, the most recent one I bought was made in china and broke within 2 weeks. I read a review of the cryo on kershaw a website and it said the cryo was also made in china. I've had a cyclone for several years and have beat it to shit and back and never an issue. It has USA stamped clear as day.

Are all of kershaw's knives being made there? If so, I'll never buy another one

No, their lower end knives are made in china.  Their higher end knives (and the Zero Tolerance line) are made in the US.

You can't take this one to the bank, but if you spend around $100 on the knife, it's coming from the USA, if you spend less it's coming from china.

Kershaw doesn't try to hide the fact that their knives aren't all made in the USA.  go to their website, browse through the knifes and they have it listed on each knife's spec sheet whether or not it's made in the USA.  As far as your knife breaking...I'de bet money that if you filled out their warranty thing and mailed it back to them they would send you a new one, Kershaw has a phenomenal warranty.

Your right. The knife I'm talking about was about $40. I figured it was for work, why not. I was so pissed it broke I threw it away. They do have exceptional cs. I called once to see about getting the assist spring replaced, they sent me a pack of the springs and a screwdriver to disassemble and replace the spring. No questions asked and I got them a couple of days after I called. Love kershaw knives, just lost faith after I cheaped out on that one.

Thanks for the answer and sorry to hijack

My Ken Onion Leek arrived yesterday, and I really like it.  I'm going to look for something a little larger as well, but I really like the Leek.

Right now, the Zero Tolerance 0350 is THE knife to get of the larger Kershaws.
