| Wondering if anyone has an opinion on the Benchmade Infidels . Just saw one - seems pretty cool.....thoughts? |

I recommend Benchmades all the time for all sorts uses. However if you are set on an OTF blade, I'd look at Microtech first. Hell no. The Benchmade is an extremely solid entry, and for a few hundred less than anything from Microtech. OP, don't do what I did. Get an actual USABLE blade type, if you get the Infidel. I got the double edged spear point type, and it was pretty worthless. If I had to do it again, I would get a combo blade of some type. |

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the Benchmade, I'm just saying OTF knives are expensive and its a good idea to look at others. I tried out both before I bought my first OTF. I concluded that the Microtech felt more solid and fired stronger.
As far as Microtech blades being hundreds more, its simply not the case. Generally the street price of the 3.1" blade mini Infidel is $260-275, the 3.4" blade Ultratech is around $230. The fullsize Infidel is however about $80 cheaper than the Microtech of similar size. |

Yeah, that's why I'm back in this thread. The last (comparable to the Infidel) Microtech I saw was about $475. I can't remember which one it was, but my Infidel was only $269. I looked the Microtechs up last night, and apparently they have cheaper models. |

I will say this. I am not doubting they are great knives, the micro techs or the benchmades, but I will never buy an OTF again. I am a huge Benchmade fan and to this day my favorite knife I ever bought was a Benchmade Auto Presidio mini, and I recommend that you look for a good Benchmade auto that is not OTF.
I Had a Micro tech OTF scarab that i paid over $400 dollars for. I used it in Afghanistan and after about the third day of use i was fed up with it. Even with constant cleaning and maintenance it would jam and stick on deployment. OTFs, especially the DA type are great knives im sure but not for use in harsh environments. And if I can't use a knife in a harsh environment then I don't want it for anything. Go with a good Bench made auto but stay away from the OTFs. |

I got to play with it today - I am passing.
Good blade but the mechanism is feeble to me. Blade wiggles when open, opening is stopped by slight resistance. I understand it is well made for an OTF, but $300+ new - no way. I could buy 3 Kershaws for that. Thanks for all the comments. Jeff |
