| Isnt it illegal to ship automatic knifes in the mail across state lines? I was wondering because I have a benchmade I want to sell I just don't want to wind up in trouble for mailing it to someone out of state! |

Check the State laws of the state you are mailing it to. If it's legal in that state to own then you are probably GTG. I claim no responsibility for incarceration or penalties that may happen if you take my advice. ![]() A lot of states allow ownership but not carrying of auto knifes.

The dumbest, most contradicting laws ever written, pertain to knives. I've read many of them as to how they apply here in FL and I feel at least 2% dumber each time I read them. If I read them 5 more times, I should be qualified as a lawmaker. |

Usually each state will have those laws on the state web site, but they are confusing at times. |

My understanding is that automatic knives may be legal to own and/or carry under various state laws but the federal law relates to shipping via common carrier. The way I read it was that if an auto knife is shipped across state lines by common carrier then it is only legal to sell to LE/MIL. This apparently is commonly either not know or not follow by that is my understandind of the law.
Federal Switchblade Act ETA: after reading that I don't even see an exemption for LE just MIL. The shipping as interstate commerce part is vague too. Personally I wouldn't ship one but YMMV What Benchmade says |
