I'm looking for a nice, American made, neck knife with durable sheath.  It must be lightweight and thin.  I'm looking at the KaBar BK 14 Eskabar but I'm not sure how durable the sheath is.  I want to make sure it fits tight so it don't fall down while hiking.  I'm also looking at the Esee Izula but I'm not sure its worth the extra $30.  Does anyone have the Eskabar or any other slim neck knife you can comment on?  Thanks.

I have a BK11 and a BK14.  I love them both.  The 14 is a little more comfortable to me.  However, the sheath is garbage.  The knife isn't going to fall out but its not top quality either.  Get a 14 rather than an Izula and spend the extra 30 on good custom kydex.

This picture shows both my 14 and 11.

If you look around for sales you can pick up an Izula w/basic sheath for $40 - $45.  I own two, and it's a great knife (IMO).  I carry one of them on a neck lanyard (in its stock sheath) regularly while fishing.

It's tough, holds a great edge, and it sharpens up quick & easy.  I can't recommend it highly enough.  Like I said, shop around and check out some of the knife forums, you'll find one at a good price.

Is the Eskabar $11? Because the Izula is $41 here. Izula or the new penis fish knife from ESEE if you want quality American made.

OP was probably looking at the Izula Kit which runs $70-$75. Honest mistake.

I have 2 BK14's and they have been awesome knives. Picked them up on ebay for $33 each shipped. They are a little larger than i like to carry around my neck though.

My prefered neck knife is the Scrap Yard Scrapivore, but it will run you $60 with a sheath and shipping.

What about a Hideaway knife? For hiking the hand retention allows use of you hands at the same time.

Its not G10.  Its the plastic that the EsKabar comes with.  I forget what they call it.

Do people actually put "neck knives" around their neck?  I tried it once and hated having it flop around and smack me in the chest every time I took a step

It's not all that bad if your shirt is snug.  If my shirt is baggy it does flop around quite a bit.  Raising it up will help as well.

I hate wearing anything around my neck.  I won't do it if I can help it.

The only exception is my damned badge at work, which I hate, but will lose if I clip it to my belt or something.

I do. I dont find it uncomfortable at all once i got use to it.

I find neck carry especially usefull when wearing my favorite Columbia shorts that have built in belts which makes belt carry impossible.

Is there a forum member that makes custom handles? I'm wanting an orange g10 handle and can't find anything online. Thanks.

I have seen knives that attach to the back of badges and can be carried any number of ways.

I have the KaBar Becker BK 11 (Becker Necker) and several Esee Izulas.

At times, when I wanted another small knife, the only Izula available at a local store in black was the Signature model which is more expensive.   But, I have two of those since I wanted them now.

I prefer the sheath on the BK 11 to the Izula sheath.    I find it far more versatile.

Having said that, I do prefer the BK 11.   I find it more comfortable and the blade length more practical.    I  do practice neck carry.   Over a tshirt and under a button up, it is great.    Other than that, not so much.   I would not want to neck carry if only wearing a tshirt or polo.

I'll tell you that I practice the same policy on knifes as I do guns.    I don't get hung up on price.    I determine exactly what I want and get it.      It does not seem wise to me to buy a $500 gun instead of a $750 gun if one clearly handles and shoots the $750 better.    That is too little to consider it worth it.    If a knife is $50 and another is$75, but the $75 fits you and your preferences better, it would be a waste to get the $50 knife.

Pay once, cry once.
