I'd never heard of DPX until yesterday when I got to handle this folder. I don't NEED another knife, but this one really got my attention, especially since I hadn't heard of it. Search didn't turn up anything, and all the reviews I've found online are from early to mid 2011. Has anybody here had one of these? Any issues after long term use? It seems some of the first production 2.0 knives had a few issues with lockup after repeated use, but I haven't been able to find any recent reviews of the knife after long term use.
Any info would be appreciated. |
| I like the design of the HEST 2.0 but there have been many complaints of the titanium in the lock bar wearing very quickly under hard use causing blade play, which has me hesitant to drop the money on one personally. The ZT 0550 is only about $25 more and a better deal if you're in the market for a titanium frame lock IMO. |

Thanks. I did find a couple more reviews of the production models that seem to indicate the same thing as far as wear on the lock. I was hoping to find that they modified it to eliminate the issue as I really like the design and the way it handles. I'm not really in te market for a specific knife, I just ran across this one and it reallygrabbed my attention.
Anybody else have input on a current production model? |

This was my review of it, I got a test model before they were available to the public.
http://dpxgear.com/blog/2011/09/01/dpx-hestf-2-0-reviews-begin-now/ If I were to estimate how far along on open and closes I am, I'de have to be somewhere around 7-8k. This knife isn't my EDC anymore, I started carrying a little smaller knives as I normally do in the summer. Not the knife's fault, I just find that in cargo shorts bigger knives don't sit as well with the way most of their pockets are cut (more vertical/diagonal than horizontal.) Back to the knife. My titanium has worn some. I'm probably at about 75-85% lock up right now. Again, I've probably opened and closed my knife more times than a knife should be opened and closed just to test this out. Every once in a while my knife does get "lock rock," to remedy this I just take it apart and bend the lock bar over just a tad more. I know some people get bent about stuff like this and talk about how when you spend money like this you shouldn't have to do anything and blah blah blah. I honestly have no problems with adjusting the lock bar, it's easy and quick. The knife isn't as polished as a strider, but then again it's almost $300 cheaper than a strider. Another thing, DpxGear has pretty great customer service. I have no doubt that if i ever wear my lock bar all the way down to where it's running all the way across the blade, they'll replace the lock side or just give me a new knife. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one. |
