So I got my new Benchmade yesterday and love the thing. I noticed this and maybe it that I need an education on sharping. I use a DMT sharpener on mos  of my knives.

I start with a 320 or 600 and end with a 1200 and consider my knives pretty sharp. Now when I run my finger or paper over them they will cut it very well... When I shave with them (for fun) they do just ok.

So my Benchmade has what seems to my by the finger over the blade method very little sharpness to it..BUT man it shaves hair off the body like nothing else..

Am I missing something here?

What BM did you get?

Maybe it's a different angle than you're used to? Maybe different steel?

All of my Benchmade knives have come razor sharp right out of the box.

I got a 583 assisted...

My question is not that the 583 isn't sharp but a different sharp I guess?? Love this thing none the less..

I have a 583 with the serrated black blade. I got it in December. I like it a lot too.

I January I got the Warn version of the Mini Barrage. It too has a Tanto serrated blade.

I really don't notice any difference in sharpness from any other knife. I think the factory edge may be a bit more "toothy".
