Ok, I finished my 2nd knife.  I found an old Nicholson file at a thrift store for $2, and here's what I came up with.  Let me know what you think.  Jasun...it's a little less of a kitchen knife this time.

I made the scales out of some old realtree fabric I had laying around from a previous failed project.  After sanding (for three damn days), some of the white in the camo came out and kind of made it look a little shitty.  So, let me have it....how does it look?

Is a thing of beauty and the scales work with the files cut.

Looks cool.  Careful! That stuff is addictive.

I suspect it's too late for you though.

Thanks for the compliments!!  I know this is addicting!!  I'm already trying to wrap my head around another project. I'm thinking I want to come up with a decent skinner design.  I'm also trying to think up a different kind of finish other than the polished blade, but I don't know where to start.  I just have a ton of reading to do!  I'm not to keen on the "stab your blade in an onion" type of patina, but something a little more resilient.  I'm also looking into other grinds too, but the convex grind is easy for me to do with my limited tools.  Something I hope to change soon.

Great job!

I believe I see some Jerico Blade Works influence in the scale "guard" area.

The sculpted look on the handle material is nice.  If it was me, the next step I'd take would be to work on taking the bevels higher up toward the spine of the knife.  Google "draw filing" and learn to make a good flat bevel.  You can convex the edge if that's your thing.  Your second effort beats mine, for sure.

You could do a more satin finish, with sandpaper only.  Start with 150 or 220 to take out the file marks, then step up to 400, then 600.  Start each grit at an angle to the previous grit, so that you're taking out scratches that run at an angle to the grit you're working with.

You're right.  I love Jericoh's design and I suck at creating my own designs.  So like a filthy bitch I used his.    I will strive to be original!  I'm just trying my hand at this right now.

I can't speak for Jasun but most knife makers don't mind someone being inspired by thier work.I know I sure don't. Most knife makers don't mind sharing ideas, techniques and advice with other knifemakers. We are all inspired, to some degree, by other peoples work and style. Where someone would get in trouble is making exact copies and profiting from them without the permission of the origonal maker/designer.

Well, Jasun...do you mind?  Until I can be creative enough to come up with my own design, can I use yours?  I have a good idea in mind for my own, but I need to actually DO it.  Your blades are top notch, but I'm sure you are well aware of that.

What the fuck is this copying my knives shit? I mean seriously WTF?

Knock yourself out man, I don't mind at all. How the grip flows into the ricasso is one of those things that I'm not protective about. It's not like I have a model called the Bravo-1 and you come out with a knife that looks just like it and call it the Model 1. So go ahead and have some fun.

Thanks man!  I'm pretty sure I am seeing what you did there.
