I just wanted to say that Benchmade's customer service is top notch. A few weeks ago, my knife was used to cut a bag of chemicals open, and these chemicals damaged the knife (an automatic) badly. The action would not work, and the finish on the blade was destroyed. I called benchmade, and sent it in with $35 for a blade replacement.

The knife I sent in is probably close to 15 years old, it was given to me as a gift. It did not have the "safety". I just got my box from benchmade, and it contained my original knife and a brand new one. The note said they could not replace the blade, but that they did fix the action. Because they could not replace the blade, they included a new knife and returned my old one in case it had sentimental value.

The old knife works just like it's supposed to, the action is as slick as the new one is. The blade is ugly, but I'm ok with that. Way to stand behind a product! I'll be buying more in the future.

Did you get your $35 back? Or was it used for the cost of the new knife? Or was it shipping fees?

reason I buy benchmade.  Sent on in and $5.00 for sharpening I think they sent it back with a new blad and cleaned it all up.

Thats awesome.

You never hear of stuff like that happening with spyderco.

You hear about it from Kershaw as well. That said Spyderco has an excellent reputation for customer service, I'm sure a search would turn up similair stories.

and good on Benchmade for sending the old one back.

I know I saw one where a guy sent in one of their old Balisongs for repair, they sent him a new model, but kept the long out of production one.

The $35 was used for the cost of the new knife.

I have been very impressed with their life sharp service. When I sent in an older knife they not only sharpened the blade, they also completely refurbished the knife and installed a new clip for me. They go above and beyond. My only real gripe with them is their out of the box edges don't come close to spydercos. Their secondary bevels are too shallow.

BM is top-notch in this respect.

I'm sending in a 16 year-old AFCK.  The clip screws pulled out a while ago, the backspacer shattered a few years later, and one of the Butterfly medalions fell out.  I took the knife apart and lost the scale screws and pivot screw because I moved after that.  They told me to send in what I have (stop pin, female pivot, liners, scales and blade and they will restore the knife for free!
