I am looking for a good folding knife to carry daily.  I prefer something moderately sized (under 3.5 inches)  with a clip and no serrations.  This would be used for opening a few boxes here and there but mostly just to have a knife on me.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Went to two Walmarts to buy one - sold out at both!

To many to list. Spderco,Kershaw ,Benchmade and Cold Steel make many knives that you are looking for. Check out some of the online dealers such as KnifeWorks or knife Center for what you want.

I would recommend anything Kershaw and anything Spyderco.  I'm not saying there aren't other alternative, these are just the two brands I own the most of.

The knife I've gotten recently that i've been most suprised with is a Spyderco Tenacious.  You can find them for under $30, and the fit and finish on them is pretty great considering.  The blade steel is decent for the money too.

Another option, if you can find one in stock a Spyderco Para-Military 2.  I think they can be had for around $105.  I do not have a para, but I have a military...I regret that I bought it instead of the para and i'm counting down the days till i can slip the money out without the wife knowing.  I can not speak highly enough about the fit and finish of Spyderco's military line of knives.  I know $100 sounds like alot, but damn the knives are smooooth.

Looks very nice - but a little pricey....

I may just track down a Leek - it gets decent reviews and is on sale at Walmart right now for $39.  **Nevermind - they are all sold out around here**

I like the Kershaw Blur...been carrying one for a while. You can get one at Wal-Mart..$49.

I bought this one a while back...

It's been a great knife and it's not that big.

I dig the Kershaw blackout.  Probably at the upper end of your size range, but otherwise fits the bill.

If your looking at Kershaws, check this guy out over on blade forums.  He lists factory blemishes and NIB blades at pretty good prices.  I bought a factory blem JYDII from him and he was great to deal with.  The deal with the blems is obviously no waranty.  You can still get parts if need be but no waranty.  His NIB is priced really good too!

In his sig line he has links to his other threads, i just pasted the blem thread.  I actually think he has a S30V blur for $75.   HIs prices are shipped to if i'm not mistaken.

Spyderco  Tenacious or a Kershaw Blur.

Lots of good choices in that price range, but my vote would be a BM Griptilian.  American made, 154CM steel, and a good lock.

I'de also like to throw in that ALOT of the kershaws aroudn this range are going to be assisted open (blur, leek, needswork, blackout, blah blah) Spydercos and Benchmades are manual.

This may not be an issue for you, I like both but just a heads up.

Kershaw Blur and its variants are a good value. I am partial to SOGs, as of late. My current EDC is a SOG Visionary which I picked up on Woot for ~$70.

Yes. Other than being larger than you wish, it is an amazing knife.

Look at the reviews of the Benchmade Griptillion.   You won't find better reviews on a folding knife of any brand.   Picked up mine for $56 of ebay.   There are several versions with different options and steel.

The nice thing about the Benchmade as opposed to most other folders is the locking mechanism - the knife can be opened by the thumb or by the lock spring mechanism.  Very cool.

When closing the knife the locking mechanism is on each side of the handle and can be operated on either side - and your finger does not have to get in between the knife and the handle when closing it.

Spyderco is the only other knife manufacturer that has anything similar and their spring is much more stiffer than Benchmade so their knives are typically harder to open in the same manner.

All other manufacturers have your standard way of closing their knives which involves having your hand between the blade and the handle risking potential cuts.

Go out and put a Griptillian in your hands - Cabelas carries them.

Get the S30V Kershaw Leek.

I bought the Leek.  After having it for a day I realized that is was too small in my hand to comfortably open and close.  My boss had a Blur and it just felt like the right size so I ordered one.  I actually ordered the S30V version from the seller recommended by AlanP.

Thanks for you help!

WOOT!  Grats.  Be careful pocket knives can be very addicting.  I like to change which ones I carry out as to how i'm feeling on a certain day.   Also, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the s30V Blur.  And kershawguy is a stand up merchant!

This

I use to carry a CRKT M16-13SFG as my EDC. I used it for a few years, and it did everything I wanted to and then some. Handled really nicely and kept a great edge. Bought it a few years ago for 55 bucks.

PIC:

I just recently bought a CRKT M16-14ZSF to replace it, cause I wanted something a little bigger and more robust. I have only carried it a few days, and I am loving this thing so much. It is quite a bit beefier then the M16-13, but I like it allot. I bought it at a gun show for 49 bucks (it was on sale, regulary 75 or 80).

PIC:

The only thing I dont like about these knives is that they arent sold with a straight edge, serations only

As you can see by the pics, the seration styles are different. The -14 is more traditional, and the -13 had "gill serations". I thought the tips of the serations on the gill style were weaker and broker easier. I never had any issues with tips breaking on my previous "traditional" serated knives.

Hmm that's good to know about the veff serrations.  I never heard from anyone about them.  They looked interesting, but that's a bummer about them not being sturdy.

Don't get me wrong, the "gill" serations cut better then the traditional ones IMO, but I think its cause it had a shallower angle, making it more like a razor then a "saw". I just felt that they werent as sturdy. I can take a pic of my old knife if you want to see the damage. It probably sounds worse then it really is, but I just wanted to put it out there. I can also take a pic of the size difference if you are interested in the knives.
