I am learning a lot about making knives myself so I don't know much.
It looks like your tip is really rounded or blunted and not needle sharp. The blade looks great. I really like the grind. The handle looks comfortable and smooth. I wonder about the finger groove (sorry don't know the term). It sticks below the main grip. I would put it on the same line with the bottom of the grip. How does it cut hanging meat? How about use on a cutting board? Have you thought about a sheith pattern? All in all cool knife! I would be proud if I could finish one as nice. |

Tip does look blunt.
Grip looks slippery. No hilt to speak of. Logo looks a little uneven, seems a little lighter in the middle. Can see grinding/sanding marks running both lengthwise and crosswise. Still, very nice, and much better than any knife I've ever made. |

Thanks for the replies!
The tip isn't pointy, but it certainly is sharp, per the owner's request. Who knows. Not having an arbor press handy, I used my patented prayer-and-sledgehammer method to apply the logo, so it is a bit deeper on one side. First time, and all...
The grip isn't actually slippery at all, I finished it with CA glue after sanding to 1000 grit. Of course, I might not trust it if it were wet... but then again I wouldn't trust anything but micarta or maybe g10 in that situation, either. I'm still working on getting all of those little scratches out, it's one of my biggest hurdles at this point. I think my HF 1x30 grinder put those pesky vertical scratches in there. Workin' on it! I've found that the index finger groove allows for a more positive grip, and I like the option of choking up very close to the cutting edge. I'll definitely be branching out in that regard on future knives, I've already done one knife in this pattern before and I don't want to get stuck in a rut design-wise. Thanks for your input! |
