Is this a knife made from a kit?

Does the handle appear natural or synthetic?

Only markings are "Mase" electropenciled on the blade.

THANKS

Definitely not a regular production knife.

Could be a refurbish or a kit.

Handle appears to be genuine stag.

The green stuff will come right off, caused by storing the knife in the sheath. Brass reacts that way to some tanning processes.

ETA-whoever did it knew what they were doing, fit seems excellent, sheath is nicely done, and it looks like they even soldered the guard.

Thank for the input gents,  it is put together very well.

It just screams "kit knife" to me...

I was leaning towards a kit, or maybe a re-handled blade. Looks like someone rounded the edges while polishing.

Nothing wrong with a kit, as long as the steel is good and has a proper heat treatment.

The guard is very similar to the Morseth and/or Dozier style knives.  Here's a (not very close up!) photo of a guard and handle Bob Dozier did to complete a kit knife I bought years ago of laminated Swedish steel that AG Russel sold as kits.  Also, Dozier uses alternating colors where the guard meets the handle like on the OP's knife.

OK,   showed it to the local knife "guy" today,   said it was made by a local knife maker in the 70's that died in the 80's.

Mystery solved

Thanks
