| I am stuck between a SOG SEAL Pup Elite and a Blackhawk Tatang, both look like really good choices, but I have no experience with knifes from either company. Anyone know which would be the better choice? |

General survival, Tactical work, outdoors stuff I use my knifes from everything from light chopping to, with my cheaper ones, carving epoxy putty once dried. I intend to use one of these for my tactical rig, which is why I didn't just get a SOG bowie knife, I chose reasonable sized and I just liked the way they looked, the Tatang being my favorite appearance wise. I heard SOG holds its edge REALLY well, but I couldn't find very much info on the Tatang through a light google search. So if I had to list it would be General Material cutting cord cutting light wood chopping self defense some meat cutting in extreme cases (survival) maybe first aid? lol I'm new to "expensive knifes" until now its been my $10 walmart Gerber and my ever so faithful, CRKT M-16-10KZ. I mean, that thing's autolawks lever is bent, the finish is coming off, I've nearly lost the pocket clip, its holding in though, its still my favorite. The only reason I don't just get another CRKT is because I only like their folders, which I don't want for this particular set of "needs" |
| The Tatang is a lot bigger than the SEAL Pup and seems to be designed as a fighting knife(with an apparent emphasis on Filipino techniques) while the SEAL pup is more compact and seems to have been designed with utility in mind. If you are looking for a good general purpose knife, I think you should go with the SOG. |
