I know, i know, this is a blade forum. But, i couldn't find a Baton thread anywhere. I need to find out what the most durable, longest lasting baton out there is.
Thanks

solid or collapsible?  Is weight a factor?  Intended use(s)?

Go to the local uniform supply and handle them.

I tend towards ASP for a couple reasons.  One it is what I am most familiar with(I am an instructor).  And when I got in to them they were the best option (Not a monandock fan adn those were about the only options then).  That may have changed.  Many companies now offer batons.   I would say go to a uniform supply store and play with them like others suggested, pick the one you like the best and avoid the cheap stuff.

so an expandable baton is "tactical"....does that make the PR-24 "non-tactical"?

They make an expandable one.  I think i have two floating around the house or garage.

OP.  I still recommend physically looking at the various batons before spending the money.  Depending on your uses/needs the best baton ever may not be right for you.  Is weight a factor?  How about concealability?  Durability? Versatility?

The older(haven't played with one in almost 10 years)monadocks have an edge in durability from an impact warping standpint IMO.  However, ASP are mroe forgiving of abuse (When I moved a box with three asps and a monadock expandable pr24 spent a couple years in storage the asps worked fine.  The monadock was locked closed.)  Also, unless things have changed any asp instructor is an armor and repair fo most problems (excepting warping) is easier.  As to warping I have seen one asp warp.  It was used to beat on shit like concrete adn glass by an idiot).

Concealibility:  The ASP wins hands down.  Unless they have made the Monadocks smaller, in the closed position they are about as long and are thicker than a longer  (31")ASP.  Asp also has lightweight models (this sacrifices some durability and they are not recommended for regular duty use).  They also make 16 21 26 and 31 inch batons.

Versatility.  Surefire used to make a light to screw on an asp.  ASP now makes their own.  It is not the best tactical light in the world but when put on a 16 inch baton it makes it a 20 or 21 inch baton.  And closed it is thicker but somewhere between the size of a standard mini-mag and a long minimag.

You might also want to ask in the BOTS forum as someone there may have a different perspective based on using the monadock or other brands.

I'm issued the Auto Lock POS.  It sucks.  Only thing it is good for is banging on doors instead of knocking.  The 1 guy I used it on it was worthless, still can't believe I didn't break his hand when he tried to block my strike.  Give me a nice piece of hickory anyday.  I know I can do damage with one of those.

...lmao...nothing like a solid piece of am-er-i-can hard-wood up aside the head...yeah...I got baton-hawks too. I love batons- been messing with them for almost 15 years. Made a double ended staff out of two of them once with a mid section 11 inches long- total length open was 5 feet. Cut one down to a total of 12 inches - intended as a hand concealed baton- was 4 inches long when closed! I had a lot of fun with them over the years- just wish they would lock up and unlock with a buton or something without being 100 bucks. Durable? Long Lasting? Chose the brand names. But cheap? None of them are. I started using the Taiwan made ones due to cost (about 10 to 20 bucks) and their better manufacturing process than any chinese made imports. For hawks I will still use ASPs products if I can. The taiwan made ones last about as long as any of them and hold up pretty well- major factor...is they all will wear out and need replacing...might as well get something you can ..uhnm.....'leave behind'....
