budget is about $50-60
can anyone make a recommendation? Is Lansky any good? I am NOT skilled with regards to a stone method TIA |
| I also have a Lansky and it works fine for me. I don't have any sharpening 'skill' either but you don't need any with the Lansky system because the fixture sets the angles. The main thing with any of these is the first time you sharpen your knife is going to take a while until you hone the new angle on the blade. |

Buy a bunch of cheap knives and practice with stones.
I bought the Lansky system and thought it was garbage and promptly took it back. I took a few old knives and just practiced. People always comment on how sharp my knives are. It's like seeing a magic trick to them when my knife slips right through what I'm cutting. It's not that hard, seriously. Sharp objects and the skills to make them sharp have been around for a loooooong time. Go buy some damn sharpening stones in what ever flavor you prefer and learn. I'm not going to pack a "sharpening system" in my pack, but I will have a small stone. There is a wealth of info on the net about sharpening blades. Read it and apply it. |
