my step dad got a similar sharpener from sportsman's warehouse. i watched him use it on the kitchen knives and it worked well. it seemed to take a lot of metal off the blades. there was small curls or steel forming on each pass. i was going to use it on my CRKT but didnt want to f up the blade.

how well do they sharpen an edge? does it do it at the correct angle? ive always used a diamond wet stone to sharpen my knives so i know nothing about these.

I don't know... I never liked any of them. I just do better with a very coarse/fine Norton crystolon stone followed by hard Arkansas followed by leather strop with emery compound... I just don't like the gadgets. You're stuck with one edge angle and there's no way to get a true honed edge with a V element.

im just concerned about the angle. i dont want it to bee too steep because it will not hold an edge.

i guess the only reason im thinking about this is because im not the best at sharpening. i have a hard time getting the correct angle. this seems to be an easy way to get a consistent edge..

If you're actually seeing curls of steel coming off the blade as you sharpen it... it's removing way too much material.

Get yourself either a Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker, or an Edgepro Apex sharpener.

cool how long does it take to use one of those kits?

i think it was taking curls off some of the knives because they were really dull. if you inspect the knives they dont look like much was taken off.

I use one to Sharpen my Machetes other than that, I use the spyderco model.

I bought mine from Thebladeshop.com and buy almost all my knives from them, they have a 120% price guarantee. If you find it for cheaper they will beat that price by 20%.
