After watching "The Last of the Mohicans"  I've been throwing(no pun intended) around the idea of obtaining a tomahawk.  Does anyone have one and not just use it for decoration?  I mean does anyone actually head out for hikes or camping and bring it along? From what I'm reading its not only a fantastic weapon but also a all around camp type tool.  A multi-purpose tool if you will.

I just bought one of the SOG's also....although I really don't have a use for it.  Blade forums has a dedicated hawk forum with some good info and some really hardcore users.

Yep, on bladeforums.com.  Here's a cool thread about mod-ing the inexpensive CS trailhawk

The best and most carried/issued are made my Ryan Johnson at www.RMJTactical.com.  We are working on the tactical tomahawk DVD and next year plan to have a course.

Here's a couple of mine:

Cold Steel Rifleman's Tomahawk (an old one; I bought it in early 1994)
ATC Rogers' Rangers Spike Tomahawk (before production of this model switched to Bear Mtn)

Both are on handles I carved myself from old sledgehammer handles found in a barn.

The Comanche is a bad mo-fo.

I had considered picking up one of these to play with. Looks mean and is cheap.

i have a set of Beaver Bill Forge throwing 'hawks that i use fairly often- both for throwing and for light utility work when camping.  a good 'hawk proves quite handy in the field

Fort Turner makes some great throwing hawks at a reasonable price.
FORT TURNER

You will notice that there is a difference in the design between the 'throwing' hawks and the camp hawks.

HB Forge makes good ones as well.
HB FORGE

Hawks are fun to throw.

The decoration on the handles looks good - right out of The Patriot. Nice work.

I've been wanting a tomahawk for a long time, but I'm hooked on the designs of RMJ Forge, http://www.rmjtactical.com/.  The problem is price, I can't bring myself to spend $350+ for something like this that won't get a lot of use.  After seeing RMJ's designs, nothing else has appealed to me.

have you looked at http://www.k5tactical.com? I've been looking at theirs for a while now, and the price is right, and their design is pretty nice

Not as sexy, but they appear to provide the same functions.  Thanks for the link.
