I wanted a Benchmade AFCK with Axis, G10 handles and the D2 blade, but they are discontinued. (First the Spyderco all steel Mariner, now this...) Any recommendations on a good folder? Requirements are the same as everybody else: assisted opens fast but can't be automatic (travel to CA too much), locks solid, takes and keeps an edge, blade length under 4". No tanto points (don't like sharpening them, and they aren't as utilitarian for me as a clip point). Thinner across the handle is good (carry clipped in pocket). Plain I don't mind spending a bit, but would like to stay under $125. Thanks! ETA: Thanks. I grabbed a Benchmade 710. I was really tempted to get the Al Mar Sere 2000 - very very tempted, but at 50% more it was just too hefty a premium for now. (maybe later though). I still wish they made the AFCK Axis D2. It was a nice knife. Maybe I'll like this 710 as much. |

Have you looked at the Benchmade Nitrous modles. I'm planing on getting a 912 or 913 Nitrous Stryker in the next couple weeks. Assisted opener with D2 steel available in partial serrated or plain edge, tanto or spear point. Another nice one is the 710 in D2. It's not an assisted opener but it does have the axis lock wich is really nice. |
I have the fullsize rukus and considered getting the smaller one, but the clips on them SUCK. I love the s30v though, cutting with that steel is like using a powertool. |
In addition to the Benchmade 710, you might take a look at the Spyderco Military in S30V or the Endura in ZDP-189. |
