Can you recommend me what you think is the best non-electric sharpener? I know stones are the best, but I have a hard time hitting the right angle for any blade that I choose and end up taking a lot of metal off to get an ok edge.... |
In before anyone else recommends Spyderco's Triangle Sharpmaker ...Or, you can read the book. ![]() FWIW, I use the technique discussed at the bottom of this page for my EDC and working knives and a sharpmaker for our kitchen knives. |
+1 on the book, I have it and a kit from them. The guy gets a shave with a wood axe for crying out loud, of course I'm going to take his advice. |

I've used a Lansky for years. It works great for almost all applications. I recently (a year ago) purchases a Spyderco Sharpmaker. This is by far my very favorite sharpener. It is simple, quick, and puts a scary sharp edge on my knives. I still use the Lansky on very dull knives, due to the fact it can remove alot of metal in a short amount of time. I then use the Sharpmaker to put the finishing edge on. |

This is the quickest and easiest sharpener I have ever used. I use it about once every 2 weeks, and my knives stay plenty sharp. The Artist Formerly Known as the Stirling Sharpener |
| +1 for the lansky. I recomend at least buying 1 coarse or extra course diamond stone to speed up the process. I've used one for years and I don't know anyone that can get a knife sharper than I can. i also use an belt and a little metal polish to strop my blades out afterwards. |
