Are the 3 fasteners on the pocket clip of the LUDT removeable? They look like Torx, but can't be sure from the pictures I've seen. I'd like the option to remove the pocket clip. Answer, "Yes" |

If they're not torx screws, then they're the special Microtech tri-wing screws which can only be removed using this tool: www.microtechknives.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=37&Itemid=57 |

Uhhhhhhh, what would you say the price for one of those is. I'm trying REAL hard to see a decimal point between the 1 and the first zero. 100.00 bucks for a screwdriver? "Only the Microtech tri-wing wrench kit will open these screws. The 2006 screws have had center holes taken out and have been tapered to accommodate only the Microtech wrench kit. " This is looking ominous. I'll call them tomorrow. |
I called Microtech and talked with a nice lady. She said the screwdriver/kit was a new item and they hadn't actually sold any of them yet- and, no, they don't sell just the inserts. BUT- she did give me the contact- burnknives.com. They will sell you the correct insert for 15 bucks. I saw some larger pics of the 2006 LUDT and the screws on the pocket clip sure looked like torx to me. But if they don't I'll have the info. She also pointed out you can send your knife to them and they will do the work for $10 return postage- also won't endanger your warranty. Another option. |
That is assuming you dont want to see your knife for 1-6 months if you get it back at all. If it is an auto then that presents a whole other set of problems since they dont ship autos to people, unless you are LEO or the like. Microtech has a very bad reputation for terrible cutomer service. I actually sold all my microtechs because of this. I just recently gave them a second chance and picked up a UT-6 DE satin, the knife is nice, but i would hate for it to break. I like benchmade because they have really good customer service. There are obviously better autos out there, but not for the money and benchmade has a good bang for buck ratio. Plus benchmade has a wide variety of auto designs. See my benchmade auto collection here. benchmadeforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/158106573/m/5261028831 Daltons are good knives too, but they are made in limited numbers and its hard to find what you are looking for. I have 9 daltons and about a dozen bemchmade autos, plus my one microtech. I do have a DE scarab on the way. Microtech does make the best OTF's in the world but they are finicky knives and its a gamble if they break to get them fixed. I buy autos for the fun factor, i can open a benchmade axis lock just as fast as an auto and i can actually close the non-auto faster. |
