Does anyone know of Michael Janich? He is a highly regarded MBC martial artist, former military, NSA operative, and police officer. He is the designer of the infamous Spyderco yojimbo. this knife is a stellar Sd knife and is MBC rated. if you arent familiar with it, you should check it out. this knife has a lot to offer to anyone interested in getting a good SD knife for backup, etc...

Nice name drop and plug..........devoid of much useful info.

I have met Mr. Janich and trained with him on a few occasions.  While I didn't agree with all of his ideas he was very professional and seemed to be good people.

In the future please try not to post what IMHO sounds like an advertisement......

uh, OK??....??? I wasnt trying to advertise anyone... I was asking if anyone knew about him and then applied some info about him so people wouldnt say, "who the hell is michael janich?"

what did you not agree with him on, in regards to martial blade craft?

I was skeptical of a technique he had advocated for drawing and bringing a folder into play.  The technique was to draw a "tip-up" folder from a rear trouser pocket and open the blade using a pinkie finger that would lead into and ice-pick grip.  This seemed awkward and provided less leverage than a more traditional draw where one would grip the knife normally and use a thumb to push the opening stud, hole, disc, etc.  IIRC correctly he was carrying 2-3 folders on his person and this was presented as a way to get a backup weapon into the mix.

As I said above he seemed like good people. I would however heistate to buy a design or technique from anyone based on their rap sheet alone......

That does sound like an awkward way to do things.

i agree. that method of drawing his folder, the spyderco yojimbo, is odd. however, from reading and hearing others who have trained with him, he seems to get it done well...

i do agree with the oddity of it though...but who were you saying was carrying 2-3 folders on their person? for self defense?

the link to michael janich's designed spyderco is...

Michael Janich's Spyderco Yojimbo

i plan on going up to the knife dealer i buy from in bluefield, virginia tomorrow, and getting this knife... it is regarded as one of the best self defense knives on the market... it is an EXTREMELY sharp blade that is light and easily deployed. also, the compression lock is very strong and the overall knife is said to be built like a tank... i have held this knife and i can say this much... it feels about as good as any knife can feel in your hands... the grip is actually longer than you would expect and this doubles to your advantage. not only do you get a better grip, but janich designed this knife so it can be used as a pressure tool... or a blunt jabbing instrument. i am excited about this knife and cant wait to get one. i will let you fellas know the ends and outs of it when i get back tomorrow afternoon. God Bless.
