| Are they that good? |
| They are good knives, but way overpriced, even from the above link. Basic steels, basic materials, cheep noisey kydex sheaths. If you like to read about your knives in "Tactical Knives" magazine then get a TOPS as they are a major advertizer and have a feature article every 3 months or so. Thats what you paying for. My own rant against TOPS is they try to make everybody believe every soldier going to Iraq or the 'Stan carries a TOPS knife. During my year in Iraq I saw exactly 3 TOPS knives and all were given to soldiers by someone and not bought by the soldier. #1 tactical knife in the 1st Cav was the CS SRK, $49 thru the PX. Most of the guys I knew in the 325 IN, 82nd Abn Div carried either SRKs or Kabar Next Generations. I do actually own 6 TOPS knives, and took my CS SRK and Becker BK-7 with me to Iraq. |
Have you ever ordered from this web site? I can't believe some of those prices |

It's just your basic 1095 tool steel, backed by cheesy advertising. For as much as those cost, I'd prefer the Ka-Bar D2, damn, forgot the name. Same styling as the traditional Ka-Bar but comes in D2 steel, Kraton handle, and an Eagle sheath. Or a Benchmade or SOG even. A Becker is only a little more than half the price. The Cold Steel SRK is a decent knife (I do have one), but really only popular because it's cheap and readily available in the PX. Same for the CRKT folders. I carried a Cold Steel Outdoorsman. As much as a Tops, but IMO better quality. |
