I'm not up on my knife info, so i thought i'd ask some people who are.

What's a good tanto blade folder (3-4in blade)? I'm a student, so my price range is ~$50.

Thanks

i heard that the new cold steel folders are from Taiwan. Is this true? If so, what is quality like?

also, i'm pretty much set on a plain (not serrated) blade

I love all the folder I have from CRKT.   I know they make some tanto style blades and the prices are good.   Very sturdy.

A question though.   Since I have always prefered a drop point and have never used a tanto, what is the advantage to this style of blade?

my knowledge is very limited, but i'm under the impression a tanto style tip is much stronger than other styles. i'd like to get one to see if this is true.

I'm not sure about Taiwan, but the last I read the blades are made in Japan (which mine is).

AFAIK, they are also offered in non-serrated too.

Some Cold Steel knives are made in Japan and some in Taiwan. AFAIK, all CRKT knives are made in Taiwan. Don't let that hold you back though, they're decent knives for the money and can be found in your price range.

Tanto blades are strong along the whole length of the blade, good for punching through hard materiels, slashing and stabbing. I'd consider it more of a fighting type knife than a versatile utility blade such as a drop point. Of course you can use it for whatever you want. How's that saying go... better to have a knife and not need it than need a knife and not have it, or something like that.

The CRKT M16 series are awesome knives. I have a few of them. I have 2 M16-12Z (Zytel)
