I’m thinking I’d really like to get a KA-BAR. I’d like to have a simple, down to earth, fixed blade knife and having a cool history like the KA-BAR is exactly what I want. I have a reservation though. Upon seeing a bran-spankin-new KA-BAR at a local sporting goods store, it looks as if the KA-BAR inscription in the blade is cast into it. Is this think cast? How is the quality of the new KA-BAR knifes? I’m not expecting a high end custom blade, but I don’t want to be buying some melted down Citroen parts. If  the new knives aren’t all that great, would I be better  off looking around for an older, vintage KA-BAR?  I’d love to hear from any of you guys who have some experience with any KA-BARs.

Thanks, Chris

I like the old WWII era ones better than the new ones. You can usually find a nice 50 or 60 year old Kabar for about $25.00.
