how thick of plate steel will an API round go trough at 100 yards?
Today I shot a 1" thick plate steel at about 100 yards and it went trough it like butter. I had the plate angled a little away from me so the bullet path was at like a 45 degree angle. I was kind of impressed. |

They fired API at various things, steel plate, steel tractor weights, manhole covers, a safe, etc.. IIRC, it blew right through the 2" plate like it was nothing. |

Nope. We shot a bunch of armor at various ranges and that number is not accurate. Quoted:

Nammo lists their new production as follows: API(Steel core): 22mm(321-375HB) @ 100m MK211: 12.2mmRHA @ 1000m M2-like Tungsten Core: 22mmRHA @ 900m Nope. We shot a bunch of armor at various ranges and that number is not accurate. Not near close. Maybe 600 m |

We had some penetrate at around 800 but some that did not at closer ranges. At 1,800 it will still plow right through softer metals |

I took those numbers directly from their own pdf found below: Nammo Ammo PDF 2014 |

Just keep in the back of the mind - when AP goes through a metal plate, bullet becomes very very VERY HOT. Bullet then lands in grass or bush on your improvised range and you will likely have a FIRE on your hand.
Have seen a guy with a Lahti do just that, shoot AP round at a metal plate, which set a big hill on fire. It was windy, so we did not stop the fire until it got to the top of the hill. Its amazing how quickly fire spreads when its windy!!!! Needless to say, the farmer to whom the land belonged did not hold another shoot.. So be careful out there, especially in summer, unless you want to see your name in the newspapers and on TV. |

M82A1 shot at 1000 yards. The 4" pole is hardened steel. There's a nice 1/2" hole in the front of the pipe. http://www.m82a1.us/50bmg/Target2s.jpg Not sure why the link is showing instead of the picture... The better story is where in the world did you run into hardened 4"pipe? |

A fellow shooter made the target stand and it was some discards he got when he worked at United Defense. Sounds cool. My dad worked at a place that built sub doors / hatches? and brought some very wierd pieces home. One piece was about 1/4" thick, we shot it with a 30-06 at about 50 yards and it stretched a huge amount, like 3" or more, and never tore. It wasnt hardened but softened i guess.? It was before cell phones and such so no pics but i have yet to see any other carbon steel stretch when hit like that stuff. Hopefully its not some classified tech still . If u guys never see me post again u know why. LoL
