I just bought a jug of what is said to be IMR 5010 Below is the discrimination from the web site.
"IMR5010 Original application is .50 Cal. BMG ammo. Same powder as originally sold by Hodgdon as H5010, and similar to their current 50BMG. Very slow burning that can be used in most of the bigger magnum calibers. This is pulldown extruded powder from Lake City." Right now I am loading with H50BMG and using 200 grs for the charge. Most of my shooting is close range fun shooting. Where can i find reloading data for this IMR 5010,? they say it is similar to the H50bmg, so could I just start with my normal 200 gr load and be ok? |

Most of my loading has been with 5010 using ball and AP projos. It's all been pulled down surplus, not new so test some loads before loading up a bunch.
I use 215 grs of 5010 behind ball, AP and some match projos out of my AR-50. Never seen any signs of over pressure and all brass extracts with ease. I've loaded it up to 222 grs and still was good to go, nothing wrong. I wouldn't say that it was the best for accuracy being pulled down but it works well for surplus projos. What you can do is load a few up at 210, 215, 220 and 225 to see how they work. If you get any signs of over pressure on any, stop and back down your scale. You might want to load some at 200 also as you don't know how the powder is going to burn. |

WARNING !!!! WARNING !!!! WARNING !!!!
There are two distinct batches of H5010 powder out there. The original Virgin is great, the latter is 10-15% hotter than original release. BE CAREFUL. I've heard that most of the second hotter batch has been recalled. With the original H5010, I load most with AP's at 210 grains for a mild shooting load. I've gone as high as 230 grains but do not recommend as recoil gets intense. Thus I use 225 grains as a usable maximum loading, which duplicates the factory military NATO specifications. Be SAFE, have FUN !!!!!! |

Posting this info for comparison to other data sources. Start at the low end and work up. I have found that my IMR 5010 surplus powder very nearly equals the data posted at this link in another reloaders site: Compare other data sources. Some 5010 has been shown to be faster than normal. You have to work up all surplus powder. Like mentioned, his data closely matches my results. I've loaded up to 225 grains with 647 ball with no issues but just a little less is more pleasant to shoot.
