| Is there anything I need to know about it before I get into it. Since I'm in ca I can't have the bmg so I'm trying to get into the dtc complete with a press and the dies for around 3000 is that realistic? How hard are the components to find for it and is there a lot of data for the dtc or do you start at the beginning load for bmg and work up or down? |

50DTC is ballistically identical to 50BMG and they are made from the same components as well.
You shorten BMG brass by 1/10" to 3.78-3.80" then set the shoulder back by full length sizing with a DTC die. Forming loads are 218-220gr of a BMG powder like H50BMG, wc860 or IMR5010 with any bullet from 647gr - 690gr. Once the brass is fire-formed you can load it just like any BMG cartridge. CH4D.com makes the die sets as .510DTC-EDM . There is also a .510DTC-Europ version, but all US gun manufacturers have standardized on the EDM version. Suitable presses must accommodate 1.5"dia dies. These are popular: Hornady 50BMG press RCBS AmmoMaster II Hollywood Engineering Dillon BFR50 Corbin Lee's Classic Cast press that accepts 1.25"dia dies can work too, but you'll have to have a custom set of dies made for it. They did offer DTC dies for a while, and I had a few runs made for me a couple years ago, so it may be possible to find them on the used market. DTC rifles/conversions are currently offered by: edmarms.com serbu.com 50bmg.net ferret50.com statearms.com bluegrassarmory.com If you're in the SoCal area, I'd be happy to walk you through the process on my own equipment. //Ben 06FFL - Custom Ammunition |

How soon are you gonna have your .50? If you're gonna have it before the 18th and your in SoCal, come out to Angeles Range and shoot with us. If I don't have to work I'll be there for sure, same with MrBen.
If you're in SoCal, he's the best when it comes to loading 50 BMG and DTC. Probably no one better when it comes to DTC, he's loaded thousands of rounds and taught numerous people to load it. Take his advice, stop by his shop and learn to load DTC if you have the time. Don't forget to bring your stuff, load some ammo and get ready to hit the range, goes hot just after 8 am. 50 |
