Bare with me ,I am new to the 50 cal platform. I just bought a new m99 29 inch fluted barrel. Installed Barrett ultra high zero gap rings, Nightforce NXS 5.5x22x56 with zero stop and  the NPR2 reticle. I plan on zeroing at 100yds and then getting readings for every additional 100yrds.. I am used to the precision of my handloaded 308 rounds that are the same every time I pull the trigger. It seems like with the 50 there are so many different bullet weights out there. I am wondering if I should Stick with 1 manufacturer and just buy a can of xm33 and sight in using it. Even the ball ammo has different weights. The API , APIT, AP also weight different. I plan on loading for it when I can get a dedicated press and then once I find a load stick with it. For now it looks like a crap shoot. Need some feedback from experienced 50 cal shooters. Thanks

Ball is for plinking....AP is for plinking...APIT is for starting fires....... Tracer Ball makes great fires.... And 750 AMAX makes small holes at long ranges

Spotter/tracer makes even nicer fires.

I've found some good groups with AA8700 and 647 GR API bullets at 400 to 750 yards if you want something inexpensive to shoot.  The API bullets can be had for  .35 cents each if you look around.  Also you might check out Leihigh bullets for extreme accuracy at long ranges using N20 29 powder.  They are over 800 grains and you need a slow powder to push them.  Reloader 50 might do you well also.  You can have a lot of fun in the country.
