Is it worth the extra $500-600 or to buy a new AR50A1B vs finding a good condition used AR50? I've read up on the differences, but don't really understand the PRACTICAL differences that they make.

Any firsthand advice appreciated.

I vote that it is not worth it.

I can't see where haveing the newer version is bad with anything. Resale, new design. And I belive the brake on the a1b is better. Mine is the a1b and and it has a very soft recoil.

I love my AR50 old version.

Recoil is very light, my M1A kicks more.

Thanks all!

I think I'll just pick up the first great deal I see then, in either version.

No reason to buy a new one IMO, my AR50 has a very light recoil.

What are the chambers like on the new ones compared to the older models?  Some owners of the older models said they when they handloaded match ammo, they were not able to seat the bullet out far enough to touch the lands as the chamber was far too long.  Are the newer AR-50's the same way?

The problem with the chamber was that they would shoot 4 rounds into a nice group at 500 yards then a fifth round was a flyer.  One guy had his AR-50 barrel removed, an inch cut off the back then rechambered so he could seat his bullets to touch the lands or just in back.  Another guy had his barrel replaced.  Both improved their groups as a result.
