Ok guys. Awhile back I made a thread about finding a scope for my 82a1. I ended up getting a 5.5-22 for a steal. Now i need rings. I've been looking at either Barrett rings or Badger Ordnance rings. From the research I have done myself, am I correct by saying the Barrett rings are aluminum and the Badger Ordnance is Steel. Would either choice of these rings be sufficient for a 50? Also if anyone has reviews on either that would be helpful. Any input would be great.
Thanks, Dan |

The Barrett rings are nice but the ones I have seen have an additional adjustment where you can put some slope (MOA) in the ring setup. This is simply one more thing to go wrong. If your scope base has 20 to 30 MOA built in, you don't need the Barrett rings. If it's flat, the Barrett Rings are a help. But Badger's standard rings are just fine. If they make you feel better, the Max-50 rings are great as well, but are a bit heavier and more expensive. -David |
| When I bought my NF scope I went with Leupold Mk-IV rings in super high so that everything cleared on my AR-50, in the 10 years that I've had the rifle the scope has never moved. So, if you want a durable set of rings that will keep your scope in place... they're another option to look at. The machining on the rings was also so clean that I saw no reason to lap them. |

ALL rings need to be lapped... if for no other reason than to be sure the alignment is still perfect.
I've spent hundreds on a set of rings and bought cheap sets too. Every one of them had material that needed to be removed once mounted. Even "1-piece" ringsets like the Armalie EX-0022's You'd think it wouldn't need it, but they all do. |

But they aren't as stout as most "50 rated" rings, though iirc some have used them with success (as in non-failure, not win a match). |

His response: "if it don't cut your ARMS mount group sizes in half then send it back. :-)" I'll be damned if he wasn't right. I still own that mount, almost 7 years later. Well worth the money. Buy once, cry once. |

I think this will do the trick instead. I'm sick of torquing my current mount on/off to get my rifle cased. |

Good choice...they are about the best out there as far as QD options go which is what I wanted for storeability and transport. I initially went with the .50 mount not realizing my m99 had the 27 moa base which resulted in not being able to get a 100 yd zero like I wanted. The OBR mount works great though. |

Glad to hear that it'll work...
I have Larue mounts on all my smaller rifles... .22lr through 7mm Mag... Never had an issue with them yet. I think I could have bought a small car for what I have spent with Larue. The OBR mount looks like a good solution compared to the SPR variety as both rings on the OBR are solid on the base rather than having the front ring hanging loose on that forward extending bar... The SPRs work great on my ARs and HK91, but I was concerned they would flex too much under the AR50s recoil. The .50 mount looks great, but the base on my rifle has 2015MOA already... I don't need another 30moa for my uses. Edit 'cause I'm kinda dumb sometimes. |
