Anyone here noticed that a good sweet spot on the 50 seems to fall into the 2700 FPS range? If so, could you post up your barrel length too?
Thanks a bunch! |

Not sure if this is what your asking for, but in case it is.
My barrel is 36" long. Shooting 750gr AMax, being pushed by 218gr of H50BMG. Same load in my friends 20" barrel is only getting 2360 fps Sorry, btw I am getting 2730 fps. Funny thing, loading a brass bore rider of 649 gr with same powder charge dropped my fps down to 2675. At first I thought it would raise the fps cause of the lighter bullet. But it appears that there is less friction between bullet and barrel and thus the burning powder does not build up pressure. I know a longer barrel has its draw backs. Cant hold the rifle (bench or ground only). Need longer case or the ability to break down the rifle to fit in a case. Longer cleaning rod also. But the major advantage is that you get more velocity and less drop. And in the case of my friend, you cant use some bullets cuz they will not stabilize (per Lehigh bullet web site). |

Seems like the most accurate rounds that produce good groups on the target for me, fall speedwise into the 2700 FPS range no matter what rounds I am using. Just was wondering if anyone else had noticed this anomaly with their rifles too. Have a friend who is using a different rifle and the 2700 FPS range works well for them also.
ETA, I am using a 30" barrel to obtain the speeds I am getting. Same length as my friend. |
