I have a lower that I plan to use for my Tactilite T1 Duty upper that is on it’s way. My question is whether or not I will need to remove the magazine hold-open catch on the original lower?
I am aware that I’ll nee to remove the buffer, spring, and buffer retention plug and spring, and install the heavier hammer & spring. Thanks in advance~! Oh - and yes, I'm aware that I cannot pin the upper onto the lower while in am physically inside of CA's borders. While that's a PITA, there isn't anywhere to shoot a .50 BMG near me anyways - so I'd already planned to drive to Nevada to shoot. I also plan to run a cable lock through the pin-hole in the upper so that no one can assemble it but me. |

Yes, you have to remove it. Don't buy a fancy aftermarket trigger either, as they do not work. They fit, but in order to use a trigger, it has to be compatible with a standard AR trigger and you have to remove the disconnector also for the Heavy hammer to fit. Here is a link to who I used to take my trigger to 3 1/2 lbs and a link to brownells for an overtravel adjustment screw that works good. This is all you will need for a Great trigger and if you have a standard AR trigger already, it will only run you about $80.00 for a super nice trigger. The trigger adjustment screw from Brownells is about $45.00 plus shipping, but i could get it for you for about $35.00 plus shipping. Here are the links.

Hey! Would you take a pic of what you have so far and post it up and tell about what you are going to have as far as all the components when you get done? I'd be happy to. My upper should be here in 2 days and I will start shooting some photos. The Upper is a Tactilite T1 "Duty" upper. The lower and parts I have so far are a Spike's Tactical "multi-cal" with a CAA G27 grip and a Magpul PRS stock. Innerds are a STAG LPK w/ambi safety. Still to buy is a bipod (I contacted Dave) at the number he sent me on the bipod, and am still waiting to hear back. I'm also planing to use a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 scope in a LaRue mount (if it has sufficient adjustment back to zero at 100 yards) cranked down. The bad news is that I won't be able to post an assembled photo due to CA's .50 BMG rifle ban. I'm OK with that since there's NO place to shoot in CA anyways. If the SHTF, then I guess I'll have a rifle that should be able to make a car-motor quit... Thanks for all your advice and help - it's appreciated way more than you'd know. If you ever visit near the Sacramento area - I'd happily take you to an enjoyable lunch, and a couple beers included. |
| What Larue mount are you going use? I had the one with a 30 moa slope to it and I was shooting high at 300 yards and had no adjustment left to bring it down. If you are gong to get one with a MOA slope to it, I would not go with anymore than 10 MOA, that is just my opinion. With my non-moa, no slope mount, I can still click it up far enough to get to 1000 yards by my calculations, but I have not shot that far yet. If I ever get good enough to shoot out to 2000 yards, I may have to throw the Larue 30 moa mount back on. I lived North of Sacramento, 40 minutes, in Colusa, CA for about 3 years. My oldest brother is still there though. |

I've got a question in to Michael at Zel, as he mentioned using the LaRue mount with the NXS 5.5-22x56 scope (same As I plan to use). That particular scope has 100 MOA of elevation adjustment, and I do want to be able to crank it down far enough to get a 100-yard zero. I've read several accounts of folks not being able to zero at 100, but then most scopes don't have sufficient adjustment to crank down that far. Anyways, that has me thinking about the LaRue mount v.s. one of their other mounts. I prefer to have a scope set at its "natural center" for the most common yardage I shoot at - which I expect to be ~600 yards or so. On other "good news", DSA has the UAE ammo back in stock and my order shipped today. It's loaded using new boxer-primed brass and in quantities of 150 rounds or more - only costs $2 a pop. I've got some of the French .50 from J&G and also some of the South African that Widners sells. |
| I think I talked to him about his mount and I believe it was like a 15 moa version of the same one I had. I have read that they sell different moa versions, but have only seen the 30 moa version out. It is the M107 I think. Its the one the Army uses on the new .50 Barrett. I went with the JP Enterprises mount, as that is what they had at the local shop and I just stayed with it. Its a pretty good mount. I then went down to the other local shop and found a used, but like new, SIII Sightron 6-24 with a 30mm tube. The new one right next to it was $900 and the one I got used was $200. I could not pass it up for the money and it has been very good. Not sure what the full range of adjustment is on it, but it seems to be pretty good. I did a test to see if the point of impact moved with the adjustments I made and it was very close. Im sure I was the problem of not being right on. I got the Mossberg barrel on mine, the least expensive one, but if I ever shoot it out, I am going to move up to the Lothar Walther Top Shelf Barrel. |
