Cheap = Crappy.

Go for the AAA-Ammo setup.  Includes bore guide, stainless rod, stainless jag, and chamber cleaner.

You just spent $7k+ on a rifle...why chinch on stuff to keep in running...kinda like putting a $200 scope on a 50.  Just doesn't make sense.

Brownells, if we saw the same kit. Dewey rod, brushes, jag etc.

I'm thinking of going with this Otis Kit from Cabela's for my new Bushmaster BA-50. I was eyeballing it today when I was there buying some handloading bullets. It's nice!  Bill T.

i would recommend using a cleaning system that has NO brass jags, fittings or parts
you never really now if you've gotten all of the brass and copper fouling out with brass parts in your cleaning system

Yep.  Which is exactly why I always recommend a full stainless rig...like the one from AAA-ammo.com.  If you have a brass jag, brass brush, or brass ferule, you'll clean way longer than you need to because the damn cleaning equipment will dissolve with your solvent.

Thanks for the info I had never heard of that place.  I've just spent way to much on guns this year lol and was shocked at how expensive a cleaning kit was.

That right their is some great damn advice, took me awhile to learn it, but its very true.  Don't skimp on the "small" things, you'll regret it later

AAA Ammo's kit is nice, Otis makes very good stuff as well. Good enough that Barrett includes a simple kit with their rifles.

AAA is worth every penny. Nicest rod you can get.

How effective is a pull-through kit versus a guide-rod based kit?

Both work fine...I have both and  prefer the cable though, to me just easier to do with the 82. Especially with the CQ like I have now, had a standard version previously.

Also the kit being a lot smaller would make it the best choice to take into the field.  Thanks for the info Beltfed.

I keep an Otis in my range bag.  It may not be the best, but it is handy, and there's a virtue in that.  We sell them on Tactilite's site for under $55.  You can probably find them even cheaper elsewhere, if you look around.

I bought 3 shot gun cleaning kits to get the length I needed from K-Mart. Total cost $10. The thicker rod you get with the shotgun cleaning kit doesn't flex. So what if you have to screw pieces together, try carrying that one piece rod around.
