Just got my 50bmg barrel in the mail yesterday and this is what the fluting looks like on the muzzle end.  The other end of the fluting looks perfect.  I talked to the maker and he said that it is normal and not much he can do about it.

If one end looks good then why can't both ends?

not sure it would be a deal breaker for me, but it doesn't look great for sure.

Those aren't chatter marks, they are cooling fins...

Personally, I care a lot more about the bore and crown than the exterior of a barrel, but that's just me. BSW

I don't know, if I paid good money for a job that was suppose to be done right... Those chatter marks are going to stick out like a sore thumb every time you look at the rifle.

It's your money and your rifle, if the rifle checks out and you're happy with everything else, all you have to do is ask yourself if you can live with that.

it wouldn't bother me...if it shoots good.

...but that's just me.

That is chatter from a ball nose endmill. When you begin to cut on the full radius of the endmill it creates chatter. They certainly could of made it look asthetically better, and if I had machined it I couldnt let that go. You need to take pride in your work.  That being said it will do nothing to effect your performance. Nice barrel hope my coments dont come off sounding negative theyre not intended to, just explaining
